1. Acceptance
By accessing or using boat-hin.com (the „Site“), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
2. Service Description
boat-hin.com is a free online tool that decodes boat Hull Identification Numbers (HINs) into human-readable information about manufacturer, year, country and other attributes. The Site is operated by Bavarian-RaceLabs LLC, a California limited liability company.
3. „As Is“ / No Warranty
THE SITE AND ALL DECODING RESULTS ARE PROVIDED „AS IS“ AND „AS AVAILABLE“, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY.
Decoding results rely on third-party data (U.S. Coast Guard MIC database from October 2019 and a curated list of European builders). The data may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. Do not rely on the Site for legal, insurance, or purchase decisions without independent verification by an official source (national registry, manufacturer, professional marine surveyor).
4. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL BAVARIAN-RACELABS LLC, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SITE.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site shall not exceed USD 100 or the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, whichever is greater. Since the Site is free, this typically amounts to USD 100.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Site for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to scrape, harvest, or bulk-download our data outside of the in-app bulk decoder (max 500 HINs/session)
- Reverse engineer, disassemble, or attempt to extract source code beyond what is freely visible in the browser
- Use the Site to facilitate boat theft, identity fraud, or other criminal activity
- Overload our servers with automated requests
6. Intellectual Property
The Site design, original code, curated European manufacturer database, and all content (except third-party data we re-publish) are the property of Bavarian-RaceLabs LLC and protected by U.S. and international copyright law.
The U.S. Coast Guard MIC database is U.S. government public-domain data. Manufacturer names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
7. Third-Party Links and Advertising
The Site contains advertising (Google AdSense) and affiliate links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of those third parties. Your interaction with any third-party site is governed by that site's terms.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bavarian-RaceLabs LLC from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from your use of the Site or your violation of these Terms.
9. Modifications
We may modify these Terms at any time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new „Last updated“ date. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice.
11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
For consumers domiciled in the European Union, mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence apply additionally.
12. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
